Phyllis Mantik makes her home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A native of Canada and a 1978 graduate of the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Phyllis moved to the United States in 1981 to further her career as a Graphic Designer.

She believes that her own introduction to sculpture was by design. From those early experiences of completing a sculpture, seeing an image take shape that began from a lump of clay, she has delighted in creating. Out of this personal joy she also senses responsibility, as a sculptor, to create work that adds value to our existence, if only to evoke a simple smile; to touch someone’s heart and for a moment to capture their emotions. Each time an individual relates to her work from their own experiences, it gives the work meaning and keeps it alive. Her desire as a sculptor is to be someone who represents goodness in life by creating, teaching, learning, discovering, sharing, and serving.

She identifies with the words of architect Samuel Mockbee, who said, "The role of the artist in society is to lift the spirit, to somehow let us see the goodness in things.” Those words echo her philosophy as an artist.

Phyllis has taught sculpture at the Art School in Guthrie, Oklahoma, MultiArts in Stillwater, Oklahoma and continues to study sculpture herself at the Loveland Academy, the Scottsdale Artists School and workshops sponsored by the Oklahoma Sculpture Society. She has been exhibiting and selling her work since 1991 and her sculptures are held in corporate and private collections in the United States and Canada.
